DANNY Cowley described Colchester United’s pre-season game at Harlow Town as a ‘good day’s work’ following their 5-0 victory this afternoon.
The U’s were too strong for their Spartan South Midlands League hosts at The Harlow Arena, securing victory to follow up their 4-0 triumph at Heybridge Swifts, on Friday night.
Goals from Kaion Lisbie, Frankie Terry and Jack Payne sent Colchester on their way, with a more experienced U's side playing the first hour.

Further goals from Lennox Emery and Sam Kuffour Jnr sealed the U’s win, with a team containing mainly under-21 players fielded for the final half hour.
Cowley said: “Two good days for us – a lot of hard work, a lot of good physical returns.
“The boys did well, nine goals in the two games and none conceded which is always pleasing and all in all, a good day’s work for us.
“I thought some of our attacking play was really good.
“If I’m being critical, probably in that second-half period we could have been a bit more ruthless particularly in that first 15 minutes when we had seven or eight chances to extend but, on the whole, it was good and there were some good goals.
“The kids came on in the last half hour and I thought they did well.
“I thought they did better today than they did yesterday actually (against Heybridge).
“We played with a little bit more control and then we were able to find a bit more rhythm.
“We got two good goals – Lennox scored a really good free-kick.
“He has got that in him and is a lovely ball striker.
“Then a great ball by Ronnie Harvey and a good header by Sam Kuffour.

“Good to score two from set pieces.”
Colchester fielded three trialists against Harlow, including two goalkeepers and a left winger.
“I thought the trialists did fine,” said Cowley.
“The goalkeepers and our young left winger, who’s come out of non-league.
“I thought they did well and I thought some of our younger players did well, too.
“You call them trialists but for me, every day in league football is a trial.
“You’re always trying to prove yourself – this is the challenge of the profession.”
Cowley had special praise for playmaker Jack Payne, who was excellent once again, scoring a penalty and also grabbing an assist.
Cowley added: “Jack Payne was terrific today.
“We’re three weeks into pre-season now and he’s been so bright – his brain works so quick.”
