COLCHESTER boxer Lewis Richardson claimed his third professional victory after beating Ivan Trofimovich on his return to the ring in Birmingham.
The 29-year-old won via the judge’s scorecards after a solid six rounds at the BP Pulse Live, making a winning return to the ring after more than a year out.
Richardson told Queensberry Promotions: “I feel good – 3-0 and not dropped a round yet.

“I felt like I was a little bit closer there to getting a stoppage but it wasn’t meant to be tonight.
“We got an opponent in there who we thought was going to come at me a bit more – in his previous fights he has but he maybe saw the pedigree and didn’t fancy it.
“But full respect to him – he’s a tough, durable guy and it was a good performance, I felt.
“I’ve got to be careful what I wish for but I’m a competitive guy and I want that challenge.
“I need the experience and I need to learn whilst I’m on the job.

“Disappointed is maybe the wrong word but maybe expectations, I thought he was going to bring a little bit more to the table.
“But I’ve been out of the ring for over a year, so it was a good performance.
“I thought there was a good chance to hurt him in there but just the finish didn’t come tonight.”
Richardson has worked hard as always in the build-up his fight, making many sacrifices in order to ensure he was in the best possible shape he could be for his return to the ring.

“I love it – I’m a competitive guy and the process is big for me as well,” said the former Thomas Lord Audley School pupil, who won bronze for Great Britain at the 2024 Paris Olympics .
“I love the grind, I love the discipline side of things and there’s beauty in the struggle.
“It is a tough game but I live for those moments and there’s many more to come, for sure.”
Richardson even hinted last night that he was considering running the Ipswich half marathon , which takes place today.

He added: “I don’t want to put myself in a bit of a hole here but depending on how tonight goes with all the people that travelled up to watch me, I may do the Ipswich half marathon tomorrow [Sunday].
“I’ve got a place but we’ll see how tonight goes first in Birmingham but if I come back home early doors, then a few familiar faces might see me doing the Ipswich half.”
