STEVE Tilson has resigned from his role as Heybridge Swifts manager.

The former Southend United boss is moving on after nearly three years in the hot seat, at Scraley Road.

Tilson had been in charge of Swifts since September 2021 but has now opted to move on from the Pitching In Isthmian League division north club.

Assistant manager Ashley Millar has also stepped down from his role at the club.

In a statement issued to the Echo, Tilson said: "After reaching the play-off final last season and finishing seventh this season I’m absolutely gutted to have had to make the decision to leave the club.

"Due to financial circumstances the budget I was offered for next season was significantly lower than last season which meant I would not have been able to keep my team together which we have worked so hard to build over the last couple of seasons.

"I would just like to say a big thank you to all the supporters for getting behind the team and a big thank you to the players, Ash, Chris and the staff who made my journey at Heybridge so enjoyable.

"I wish the club all the best for the future."
