FORMER Colchester United striker Freddie Sears has signed for Braintree Town.

The 34-year-old has linked up with the National League South play-off hopefuls after leaving Dagenham and Redbridge last week when his contract was cancelled by mutual consent.

In a statement, Braintree said: 'We are pleased to announce the signing of Freddie Sears to the Iron. Freddie joins us after mutually terminating his contract with Dagenham and Redbridge.'

Sears will be aiming to help Braintree maintain their fine form under former U's youngster Angelo Harrop and his assistant, ex-Colchester favourite, John White.

The Iron currently lie fifth in the National League South table.

Sears joined Dagenham in September 2023 and made 23 appearances in all competitions for the club, scoring once.

In a statement last week, Dagenham and Redbridge said: 'Dagenham & Redbridge can confirm that Freddie Sears’ contract has been cancelled with the Club by mutual consent.
