BRAINTREE Town extended their unbeaten run to four matches with a 0-0 draw against Eastbourne Borough in National League South, writes DAVID WARD.

The Iron shared the points in an entertaining game at the Dunmow Group Stadium, with a host of new signings featuring in their squad.

ut manager Ryan Maxwell was disappointed his side didn't take all three points having had the more clearcut scoring chances.

Maxwell said: "I'm really pleased with the overall performance of the team because I thought we were the better side for most of the game and had more chances to have won the game.

"We were certainly the more dominant side in the first half and spend long periods in their half putting pressure on their goal.

"I felt had we scored then we would have won comfortably in the end despite the pressure they put on us in the second half.

"They are a good side as their league position shows but we more than matched them in every department.

"I think defensively we continue to look more solid and we are game by game and again created several clear-cut chances and the players know you have to convert them when you're on top.

"The new players on show immediately settled in and overall I think we now look a far more organised and better prepared and co-ordinated side than we have at all this season."

Maxwell gave a start to 19 year-old striker Kamil Conteh, now on loan from Watford for the rest of the season.

Conteh came on as a substitute for the Hornets in their recent FA Cup defeat against Leicester City.

Braintree also handed a debut to 20 year-old defender Matt Moloney, on loan from Luton Town.

Maxwell said: "Kamil did really well and showed what he can give the team and only took him off late on as he understandably tired.

"Young Matt also did extremely well and I am pleased for him because he's normally a central defender but I asked him to fill the vacant right-back spot and he did an excellent for us."

Braintree's also handed a debut to Grenadian international striker Dejon Noel-Williams.

The 23-year-old, recently with Gloucester City, came on as a 68th-minute substitute and Maxwell said: "Again in his brief time on the pitch he showed what potential he has and can offer and we will a great deal from him when he's fully match fit."

Braintree have also signed Jalen Jones, a 23-year-old defender recently with Cheshunt.

Maxwell added: "Again he is young, has great potential and will offer us something different in the defensive department."

Braintree were clearly the dominant side for long periods against play-off chasing Eastbourne, twice in each half having shots cleared off the visitors' goal line.

They should have scored on 42 minutes when Luke Holness broke completely clear and with a one-to-one on goalkeeper Lee Worgan somehow shot tamely straight at him.

And then five minutes into the second half, Holness again broke clear of the defence but with just Worgan to beat, blasted his shot high over the bar.

"He's obviously disappointed at not taking those chances but he is still learning and I know will do better next time,"added Maxwell.

"We had other chances to score too and although it's frustrating we didn't I believe we are now on the right track and going in the right direction with a much improved squad.

"It's good to see all the players having that total desire to win the game and I've no complaints about only getting a draw and one point."
