COLCHESTER will host First Class cricket again this summer.
Essex Women’s Vitality Blast T20 clash with Gloucestershire will take place at Castle Park on Sunday, June 21.
It will be the the first time that the venue has staged First Class cricket since 2016.
Women’s cricket is thriving in North Essex and this fixture is a wonderful celebration of its progress.
Former Colchester players to depart Essex non-league club this summer
Colchester and East Essex Women play in the Essex Premier League Competition and have a thriving junior group.
Schools in the area are being invited to encourage the growth of Women’s Junior Cricket and other youth sport participation is planned, with Essex Rebels’ elite basketball and volleyball set to attend.
One reason for the absence of First Class cricket in Colchester over the past decade was the huge cost of hiring temporary seating.

But with Essex Women’s Vitality Blast match against Gloucestershire a T20 clash and of short duration, it was seen as a suitable venue.
Gates open to the public at 1.30pm.
No alcohol can be brought into Castle Park but the Pavilion Bar is open to all.
Public parking is likely to be available on Kings Meadow, to be confirmed after the risk assessment with Colchester City Council is concluded.
If not, city centre car parking is situated nearby.

Spectators are welcome to bring their own portable chairs, as temporary stands will not be in place.
The game takes place on Sunday, June 21, 2.30pm start - admission for the match is free.
Essex got their 2026 Women’s Vitality Blast campaign off to a winning start today with victory at home to Warwickshire Bears.
The hosts claimed a seven-wicket win in the heat, at Chelmsford.
