COLCHESTER United’s under-21s lost 2-1 at Peterborough United, in their latest Professional Development League match, writes BRIAN WALLER.
With ten points gained from their first five league games, Elliott Ward's side travelled to play Posh at the Weston Homes Stadium and it was a closely-fought first half.
There was a booking for Donai O'Brien-Brady for a foul on Kai Martin and shortly after this, a U's player was yellow carded for stopping a breakaway.
A loose bouncing ball was controlled by former Braintree Town attacker Kyrell Lisbie, who then shot wide.
A late chance in the half saw O'Brien-Brady play in Klaidi Lolos but it came to nothing.
The half then ended goal-less while after the interval from a Harley Mills cross, the keeper tipped over Lolos' shot.
James Dornelly then played in Lolos again but his attempt was saved.
Patryk Sykut was in with a chance but shot wide and was then replaced by David Kamara.
After Martin was denied by home keeper Reyes, Cian Hayes set up Lolos who cut in to score after 66 minutes.
A further home change saw Boluwatife Shofiwoke replace Fabian Claxton.
From a Hayes cross, the shot was saved then a change saw Owen Moore on for Kurai Mushsni.
After Lolos set up Shofiwoke he was denied but late on, O'Brien Brady provided the opportunity for Lolos to score again, with nine minutes remaining.
There was a late reward for Colchester when Max Jolliffe scored in the second minute of stoppage time but Posh claimed victory.
