COLCHESTER United scored a stoppage-time winner to beat Newport County 2-1 and boost their League Two survival hopes, on Good Friday.

Jay Mingi's late strike secured the U's victory, after Ellis Iandolo cancelled out Offrande Zanzala's opener.

More than 4,000 Colchester fans were at the JobServe Community Stadium, to see their side claim victory and here, supporters have their say on the win.

That is what football is all about. Less said about their goal. But my god the second half was the best of the season. The passion and the energy was there. That feeling when that late winner went in was amazing.

Barry

Good to the togetherness in the team and passion they all showed. Smith and Mingi were the outstanding players in a very good team performance. We need that every game

I felt after last weeks good performance the win was coming today. Even after going a goal down I was still confident of turning it around but now we need to build on this and cut out the silly errors at the back that we always seem to do and gift the opposition a goal

Ben Halliday

Ellis Iandolo coming on was huge for us. He is so good on the ball especially in attack! Tovide and Hopper together I liked as well! And Mingis finish was an absolute peach!!

Northern Exiles

Great second half. Mingi was everywhere, great at the back for a Midfielder and made sure he got forward when it counted

Great 3 points, Mingi was outstanding. Great to see Tovide back. Deserved win, onwards and upwards!

You can't beat the man that never gives up is going to be the quote of the season. Overall, it is a deserved win, but we don't half make things difficult. It was lovely to have that winning feeling back as I'd almost forgotten what it was like! Hopefully we can push on now

Adam

One of the best second halves of the season, S1 rocking after the second went in and less said about the goal we conceded. Buzzing to get that win we very much deserved. Just need to cut those silly mistakes out of the game and we'd be a top side. Onto Tranmere.

Mingi, Tovide were all superb. Need Tovide to start now…..

Louise Harris

We battled and got the deserved 3 points. Massive win for us and Mingi’s goal was superb. Keep fighting for the rest of the season and we will be fine. Great to see the togetherness of the team under the Cowleys. Up the U’s

Sean

Fully deserved. Outplayed a play off chasing team.

Matt

Great comeback, the big thing for me was after the equaliser @ellis_iandolo pulling the ball out of the net ready to go again. They wanted all 3 points, a definite shifting mentality, previous games they've definitely settled for the draw. Big win

Fully deserved. Such an important win for us, we have had many games where we felt we were hard done by but this one means a lot just to keep above relegation. We felt in control and most of the match and it feels good to know that it wasn't a fluke.

teejmcc

Brilliant performance. Had em sat back form minute one

Richard Hartwell

A mix up at the back left us one down at half time but to their credit the players pushed on in the second half. The effort and drive shown to turn the game round probably made than our best second half in a long while

Ben Harrison

1 silly error left us trailing at half time, wondered if we had the guts and mentality to come back, damn right we did always a great feeling to win in the 92nd minute and for the Newport players who were time wasting from the off to get their just desserts

Incredible second half performance! Iandolo's impact was immense, especially in attack. Hard-fought victory, but we earned those 3 crucial points

Ean

Best performance of the season, particularly in the second half. While there is obviously still tons of work to do, it's hard not to be positive after today, and feel like the Cowleys might've just secured us one foot in League Two next year already. Grimsby is now in sight too.

David Clayton

Totally deserved. Controlled the game start to finish. Smith, Anderson excellent. Mingi superb at the back & rewarded for forward thinking. Cowleys’ influence starting to pay dividends. Tovide looking so sharp so soon after returning is another huge positive.

Tristan Green

Loved today feared the worst after we gifted them a goal . But a well deserved win goal from mingi was class. Tristan and Marius

Best second half all season. We could have felt sorry for ourselves but we didn’t. To a man we battled away. All subs made a difference. All in all superb. Just need to play with that intensity for 90 minutes. Up the U’s!!

BigBods1

Enjoyed it so much due to their ridiculous time wasting. The worst I have ever seen from minute 1. Absolutely massive win, brilliant second half.

Adam

Up the U's

Lee Sutton

Patience and support is needed until the very end of the season. Tovide will start when he is fit again, can’t rush him back and risk him getting injured again. Dominated the whole game other than the 10/15 minutes where they managed to score. Shame the strikers can’t score and we didn’t concentrate for the whole 90 minutes. Brad will improve and id love to see him up top with Tovide….Eventually

Massive 3 points ! The team never stopped probing and the work rate was exceptional. Fully deserved. Was brilliant to see the place bouncing!

Chris

Ignoring the mistake…. Defence looked good. Midfield now much better balanced and with Tovide up top is

Michael O'Brien

Mingi outstanding. Good to see Tovide and Fiacre back, but even better to see some fight and passion across the team. Having strikers capable of scoring still an issue. Potentially a pivotal win.

Shane Almond

Oh my god!! So let me explain what happened when Jay scored... I jumped off my chair, tripped over my 1 year old daughter's toys then let out a primal roar of passion and relief, making said girl cry in the process... YES!! I can't explain in words how much we needed this!
