COLCHESTER United's under-18s lost 4-2 at home to Charlton Athletic at Florence Park in their second Professional Development League match in three days, writes BRIAN WALLER.

When the sides last met, the U's drew 3-3 in the game at Sparrows Lane in New Eltham.

The first two goals came from Samson Uwandu and Ewan Gordon-Clement with Frankie Edwards grabbing an injury time equaliser to get the draw.

There was an early save by Colchester keeper Harrison Chamberlain on four minutes before right-back Ryan Mumbo was booked for a foul.

Then there was a superb save by Chamberlain who was very alert to make stop on 12 minutes, which came from an away corner.

After a Charlton attempt was curled wide, the U's took the lead on 35 minutes as at the third attempt, Samson Uwandu put away the chance.

Just before the break, Colchester came very close to scoring a second goal when Makaya James hit the post.

It had been a hard-fought first half but Colchester went in at the break ahead.

However, Charlton were back level again, three minutes into the second half.

Donte Frank then replaced James before Chamberlain made another great save.

Then just after the hour, Chamberlain saved again with the follow up hitting the bar.

Charlton did go ahead though on 64 minutes but that was short lived.

After James Sasere replaced Ewan Gordon Clement, there was a goal by Jamie Arnold on 77 minutes, after a post had twice been struck.

Back came the visitors though and they regained their lead with seven minutes to go with a very powerful drive that broke through the hand of the U's keeper.

And after Ronnie Harvey replaced Alex Kokoshi, Charlton scored a fourth goal in the second minute of stoppage time to seal their victory.
