COLCHESTER United were forced to settle for a point in their 1-1 draw with Accrington Stanley.

Noah Chilvers gave the U's a first-half lead with a fine individual strike but a late Riley Harbottle own goal for Accrington claimed a share of the spoils, at the JobServe Community Stadium, despite the visitors for playing for more than half the game with only ten men following Brad Hills' red card.

Threw the win away with a needless mistake though 2nd half was very average as soon as they go down to 10 we should be taking the initiative and getting the 2nd and 3rd goals to kill the game off, not good enough

The passing, intensity and team pattern we had at Harrogate in the first half was missing with the change of formation today. We didn't go for the 2nd goal and that cost us. But the improvement since the new management is there for us to see.

Brad

simply not good enough jon it’s a good job that teams below us are poor otherwise we have a one way ticket to the national league

Shane Almond

To go one goal up, them go down to 10 men, teams around us to drop points and we still can't put the game to bed, you know there's a problem.. today we dropped vital points when all we needed was 1 goal and the league title looks much different. Oh well we go again next week

Allen Smith

Shame today but again guilty of not getting a second and not coping with 10 men behind the ball Lucky goal for them the only way they were going to score I feel Overall played ok

I feel that the defence and the midfield are in a solid place right now. If anything has become apparent is that we need to score more goals. Our current forwards are not having enough clear chances in normal play which caused us the 3 points today.

It’s clear to everyone where we are lacking and hopefully we can survive this season and then the Cowleys can strengthen where required. We usually always lose without Reid so getting the draw was a bonus in my opinion. I’ll be interested to see what DC has to say after that

John S

good in the first half but failed to control the game after taking the lead. All season has been the same. We fight to score and lead then we sit back and let them press us the mentality of this team is woeful. Fantastic to see Chilvers back at his best though

There is not enough urgency to kill the game off. Playing against 10 men isn't always easy, but we made it easy for them. The crossing is poor, and certain players play the wrong ball. Accrington was there for taking and, as usual, it didn't happen. So frustrating to watch

Michael O'Brien

Chilvers seemingly reenergised was the only stand out positive of today. Still can’t score and it is increasingly hard to see what the Cowley brothers are doing to improve the basics. We are still in major trouble. 1 point from the last two games from which we needed 6.

Need every point we can but end of the day simply not good enough...Should be going for it completely when we’re up a man, but instead we gift them a point… Common theme for the season really…

Awful performance there was only one team looking to win today. Not scoring against 10 men for 50 minutes is unacceptable

Adam

Doing so well in that first half, just simply need to kill games off to get those 3 points. Why Harbottle touched that when it was going straight to Goodman is beyond me. Need to be more clinical and put our chances away

Si Collinson

Masters of our own downfall again. Over loaded on the right hand side all game. Should have been all over them when they went down to 10, but instead gifted them a point. Two points dropped. Only slight plus is others lost so still increased the gap. But nowhere near good enough

Herbie

DC got it wrong today. Didn't take the initiative at 1-0 against 10 men. Was a lull before the equaliser when you could sense 1 goal wouldn't be enough. Goodman poor again for the goal, doesn't communicate with his defence. Chilvers back to his best. Huge game next week.

Just plain old me

Can't play the whole of the 2nd half against 10 men and not come away with 3 points.. very disappointed

Michael Webb

Big opportunity missed today with Grimsby Sutton and FG losing. A point helps but we can’t win games and we have no ability to kill a game off. It’s really disappointing

Dave B

That second half was beyond awful. We needed a 2nd goal & never looked like getting it. The decision to take off Akinde was dreadful, we lost our focal point. DC says we aren't a 90 minute team but left the subs far too late. The Accy goal summed up our season so far.
