COLCHESTER United have dismissed Matty Etherington after just 47 days in charge.

The 42-year-old managed just one win in nine matches during his time as the U's permanent head coach.

Colchester fans have their say on Etherington's departure and what is next for the club.

Sean

He had to go. Yes we still had injury issues but both results and performances have got worse under him. Hopefully we go for someone who has actually managed a football team on something other than champ manager this time.

Anthony Clachan

Too little too late should of gone earlier!

JP

The Col U conveyor belt continues… there are quality coaches out there but there is a systemic issue at the club which may put off some. On the pitch, 3-5-2 (or variations of) is the league trend so will continue, but the quality in personal needs to drastically improve.

Si Collinson

No one likes to see anyone lose their jobs. But in a pure football sense it wasn’t working. Need experience and someone in quickly to have the window to tweak the squad if and how they see fit. The players are there, need the leadership.

Duncan Stonehouse

Etherington should never have got the job in the first place, all that's happened since he did is we've got less professional, less fit and appear to have not bothered working on set pieces. Terrible appointment, time to change it before it's too late

Long overdue! And very hard to feel sorry for a man that gave little care or thanks to those that pay good money to watch the dross he's served up! He may be a good football man but he's no good at football management

Richard Hartwell

Several games too late, but better late than never! Too meek, no passion, no charisma and clearly no idea!

GCtiger07

Strangest thing is him not trying to engage with fans & simple gesture of going over to clap them. Even if done cynically to keep job! Can’t understand his logic.

Glennyboy

It had to happen but this time the appointment has to be right or it's relegation and then ultimately the death of the club. I would go for a top name on a 6 month contract to get out of this mess. Tempt the Cowley's if you can.

Just plain old me

ME and whoever is going to be the next manager needs someone to put the ball in the net.. Taylor was too inconsistent

Dave B

It's not been good enough for some weeks now, so it's absolutely the right decision. Sadly, resigned to the fact we will end up with the kit man or tea lady.

He should never have been given the job. We were outplayed in 4 of the 5 games during his purple patch in interim charge. We must bring in an experienced manager, and I hope we change the head coach/directorship structure in the summer.

Steve Marriage

A lot of us said it when RC appointed him permanently that it was too soon Jon. The alarm bell fell off the wall for me when ME said after the 4 wins that he hasn’t changed much at all!! Never should have been given the job permanently and we have lost ground because of it. #colu
