COLCHESTER United were thrashed 5-0 at Forest Green Rovers, on Saturday afternoon.

The U’s were put to the sword at The New Lawn, after Jay Mingi was sent off for two bookable offences, early in the second half.

The bruising defeat leaves Colchester only out of the League Two relegation zone on goal difference, ahead of their home game against Harrogate Town, next Saturday.

Here are the Gazette player ratings, after the U’s slumped to a third successive defeat.

TOM SMITH 4

U’s keeper will be disappointed with the manner of at least two goals conceded but did also make some good saves, on his first start of the season

MANDELA EGBO 4

Played in a more advanced position in the second half after Kazeem’s withdrawal having started at centre-back

ZACH MITCHELL 4

Teenage defender was given a thorough examination by the likes of Morton and Deeney

CONNOR HALL 4

U’s skipper had his work cut out dealing with Forest Green’s goal-hungry attack in second half

AL-AMIN KAZEEM 5

Had a testing opening 45 minutes but tried to do the right things before being replaced at half-time

JAYDEN FEVRIER 4

Showed flashes of his skill but had little in the way of end product on a tough day for Colchester

CAMERON MCGEEHAN 5

U’s man of the match. Battled hard for the cause and had a free-kick blocked on the line. Booked

JAY MINGI 4

Left his side up against it when he was shown a second yellow card and sent off early in the second half

NOAH CHILVERS 4

Was a largely frustrating afternoon for the youngster before being taken off in second half

Clipped the outside of the post in the first half before being substituted at half-time

TOM HOPPER 5

Experienced striker was unlucky not to score when his header was nodded off the line by Dabo, on his return to the side

TOM DALLISON (for Kazeem, 46) 4

Made a welcome return from injury at half-time but was put through his paces in the second half
