THE situation at Colchester United Football Club feels like the days of emperor Nero, with some playing the fiddle while Rome (or CUFC in this case) burns.

While that is maybe an extreme analogy, it feels like we are leaderless in a time of crisis with no-one stepping up to grasp the situation as required, and frankly needed ASAP.

We are faced with relegation and our very future in the Football League is at risk.

The manager seems to either toeing the party line when giving press conferences – or is very out of touch with the situation – and it seems like comments he makes are from a different game or about a team safely tucked in the middle of the table with nothing to play for.

Then there is the, how best to put it, er, interesting team selection against Oldham. Why drop our top striker to the bench?

I understand the need for rotation but we are fighting for our football lives; there is sadly no time for taking our foot off the gas.

Then there was the strange choice to drop Myles Kenlock, who I feel has performed well since joining us on loan.

I’m fully aware that we don’t see everything that goes in during the week's training sessions, but it would be interesting to hear the logic behind it all.

Now I have been quick to point on the glaring negatives, but there has been a few positives from the last few games.

Gazette:

Noah Chilvers (pictured above) taking the bull by the horns and trying to make things happen is a big plus point.

Plus, there's our new number 27, Cameron Coxe. OK, I know he isn’t really new, but he has been a completely different player of late, one who’s confidence is on the up and he has been willing to get involved and attempt to bring some positivity to the situation.

We are almost down to single figures in the amount of games left and a draw with fellow strugglers Oldham was another two points dropped, rather than one gained.

We need to stabilise the defence, play two up top, not place Sears on the wing, but rather through the middle where he is strongest.

He has found a vein of form and now the tactical set up seems to be stifling that and limiting his inpact when he is on the pitch.

Now so many column inches have been written about how we need to improve and every week the fans reactions are the same, when asked about the team's performance.

It could just be a copy and paste job, as nothing seems to be changing.

There is no noise from the club about the appointment of a permanent manager, which is compounded even more when teams around us are sacking and replacing managers to show a desire to stay up.

I will be behind the team through thick and thin, but even I am struggling to find many positives and feel more hope than expectation, before games.

Like I seem to be saying a lot this season, it is the hope that kills you.

Right now, I don’t care how they do it but we need to win games somehow. Up the U’s.
