THE search for another three-point game goes on for the U’s.

I would like to think that it could come after a trip up the M1 to Northampton on Saturday, but if that fails to come off, then the U’s must, and I mean absolutely must, give it everything they can to secure all of the points when Hartlepool and Oldham come to town next week.

Winning your home games is not a God given right for any football team. The U’s have only managed to claim a “fortress” on sporadic occasions over recent seasons, but this season it holds the key to our survival so the pressure is on to make it happen.

Hartlepool have just won three on the bounce and those points have shot them up the table. We will need to put a big hole in their confidence bubble on Tuesday night.

Oldham have also picked up a couple of victories recently but they remain in trouble just above the floundering Scunthorpe.

I'm looking for another six points from these remaining February games to give us a massive boost, heading into March.

Gazette:

The U’s really should have beaten a poor Carlisle team last Saturday. It was frustrating for the fans, and probably for the players too.

Their goals looked a little poor from a defensive perspective and for me we could have done more going forward.

Freddie Sears for me all day long up front. We just need to find the right players combining with him.

I mentioned Corie Andrews last week and how I felt he was forming an understanding with Freddie but he was left twiddling his thumbs on the bench.

Since the Orient game where he provided the assist for the winner and worked incredibly hard, he's barely had ten minutes of game time.

I might be wrong but when he plays he makes a difference and I hope the fact that he is a loanee will not work against him when John Akinde returns to health.

It was good to see Emyr Huws back in the action, last week. There is an opinion that he is too similar to Skuse to have them playing together. Not sure that I see that completely.

Gazette:

If the U’s are looking to get their full-backs forward, which I think they are, then the two of them fit just fine. Wiredu (pictured above) is also great in that position and he is very much more box to box. The options are there for Wayne Brown.

It is the options on the right and left, and also up with our leading goal scorer which perhaps require the most consideration.

It will be interesting to see which way he turns on Saturday against the Cobblers. It will be a big test against the team close to the play offs but they are not infallible at Sixfields.

I do hope that many of you will make the trip to support the players again. It does make a massive difference to how we play – just look back to the Orient game.

Don’t forget though that it is a 2pm kick-off and if you’re a newbie to the ground please don’t head for the stadium on the other side of the chimney stack, otherwise you’ll be watching rugby at 3pm!

Please also keep supporting the management whilst they are doing what they can to head the U’s to safety.

We have had a bounce of fortune after the change and it can still continue, especially if we are successful with our two home games.

They are interim positions of course so who knows, but if we can bag another six points this month, they may well keep the steering wheel for the run in.

Thanks as always for your support. Up the U’s!
