Cameron Coxe is standing by to take his place in the starting line-up, while Miles Welch-Hayes could also be an option for boss Hayden Mullins.

Brendan Wiredu (knee) and Shamal George (ribs) will be assessed after they both missed the Exeter win.

Ryan Clampin and Gene Kennedy (both knee) remain sidelined.

Predicted line-ups

Colchester: Turner, Coxe, Chambers, Smith, Daniels, Skuse, Chilvers, Jasper, Dobra, Hannant, Sears

Newport: Day, J Clarke, Cain, Demetriou, Norman, Azaz, Fisher, Cooper, Lewis, Telford, Baker-Richardson

Colchester boss Hayden Mullins on tonight's game:

“I said to the boys that I really feel that we’re on an upward curve at the moment, which is always positive.

“We need to build on it and put a run together of our own, similar to what Exeter have done.

“If we can do that, we can be in a great position.

“We really want to gain the confidence from our performances and turn them into wins – that’s the main thing for me at the moment.

“I’ve spoken a bit this season about having your ups and downs and I really do think at the moment that this team is on a little bit of an up.

“I know the result at Stevenage was a bit of a hiccup but I was really, really pleased with how we went about our performance, last Saturday.”

Last meeting

Colchester were beaten 2-0 by Newport County when the two teams last met at the JobServe Community Stadium, in March.

Goals from Joss Labadie and Padraig Amond - who scored for Exeter against the U's in midweek - scored for the visitors, with Frank Nouble sent off against his old club.

Familiar face

Kevin Ellison is 43 years old next February - but is still going strong for Newport.

The veteran attacker has made 13 appearances for the Exiles so far this season.

Opposition view

Newport manager James Rowberry:

"We're going to be a little tired, naturally. The travelling's not ideal, but we'll prepare as well as we can within our resources.

"We'll rest and recover properly, the right nutrition and hydration and support with massage and physio, and utilise the cryochamber - which has been a massive help for us with some of the lads.

"We try and provide every opportunity to prepare as best we can... our sports science staff at the forefront of modern techniques.

"The odds might be stacked against us, but I don't see it that way - we'll just prepare the best we can."

On their 1-1 draw at Crawley Town, on Tuesday night, Rowberry said: "I thought we created enough opportunities but we didn't take any of them first half.

"We built quite well but we didn't get on their third and fourth lines to get in behind them like we wanted to.

"I'm disappointed to concede from a set play, really disappointed, but then the reaction has been terrific. So some might say a point gained, I might say two points lost."
