GOALS have been a bit like London buses for Sylvester Jasper, of late.

Despite making an impressive start to his spell at Colchester United, the talented attacker did not score in his first 12 appearances for the club after joining them on loan from Fulham in the summer.

But now the 20-year-old is looking like he might hit the net in every game for the U's.

Jasper has scored three times in his last six games for Colchester, including a fine opener in their superb 3-1 triumph over Exeter City.

And ahead of the clash with Newport County tonight, the Bulgaria under-21 international says Hayden Mullins' guidance on the training ground has been a contributory factor to Jasper's scoring streak.

Jasper said: “In training, the manager has been putting me in positions to work on my finishing.

“In my last few games for Colchester, it’s been paying off.

“I’m scoring more goals now, I’m contributing to the team and also contributing to wins, which is the most important thing.

“I’m really enjoying my football and I just want to be playing every single minute.

“If I’m playing well, then that’s just a bonus.

“Luckily for me, it was a good finish and the goalkeeper couldn’t get to it.

“I want to shoot quickly to catch defenders and goalkeepers by surprise, so they can’t block it or save it.

“I feel like my goal was important against Exeter, because it took a lot of pressure off us.

“I felt like we were calmer after that, because we knew that we had the goal advantage."

Gazette:

Colchester host Newport tonight, aiming to build on their excellent win over Exeter.

The U's are yet to record back-to-back league wins so far this season but Jasper is determined to change that.

“We want to go on a little run and string a few wins together and get up the table," said Jasper, who has made 18 league and appearances for the U's, to date.

“I feel like we should be in and around the play-off places, not where we are now.

“That’s something we want to work on.

“We’ve always got to stay confident and stay positive in our abilities because we played well at Stevenage; it’s just that the chances didn’t go in.

“We know that if we keep playing like that, then the results will come like it did against Exeter.

“We never go into any game thinking we’re second best.

“I think that we can beat anyone in this league; I don’t care who it is that we come up against.

“We shouldn’t be where we are in the league but the results are starting to change and hopefully, we can keep up the form.

“We want to win every single game – I don’t care whether they’re 20 unbeaten or one unbeaten.

“It’s just another game on the road for us and we don’t view it any differently."
