COLCHESTER United striker Frank Nouble says he and his team-mates must be loud and proud when they pick up maximum points.

The U’s ended their 14-game winless run by securing a 2-1 victory against Carlisle United at the JobServe Community Stadium on Tuesday.

Callum Harriott scored both goals - the first from the penalty spot - as Wayne Brown’s men overturned a first-half opener from Carlisle’s Jon Mellish.

Nouble said he and his team-mates should celebrate when they win, to instil a feeling of confidence and togetherness.

“When Exeter beat us here the other day, they were celebrating like they beat us last year,” said the 29-year-old.

“That really hurt and when we won (against Carlisle), I was the first one to scream in the changing room and bang on the walls so that everyone could enjoy the moment because when we’re losing, we’re quiet and sheepish.

“We’re a quiet group anyway naturally and it was important we were loud out on the pitch as well, so hopefully we can take that into Saturday.”

Nouble played a key role and won the penalty that was converted by Harriott.

“I know Dean (Furman) – we came through the youth team together at Chelsea and he just didn’t see me coming.

“I picked the ball up to take the penalty but then I realised Callum is our penalty-taker at the club.

“Too right; he took the penalty and he put it away with confidence – he smashed it against the post but it went in!”

Nouble enjoys being one of the elder statesmen in a young U’s team.

He says it’s a role he relishes.

“There’s a lot of boys in the team who haven’t played more than 100 games,” he said.

“If anything, this is probably the wrong group of players to deal with such adversity and results not going their way.

“It’s a learning curve and we’re missing (Harry) Pelle, (Ben) Stevenson and (Tom) Lapslie.

“So for us, it’s about encouraging everyone. The elder statesmen in the team just need to keep pushing.”
