JOHN McGreal believes entertainment levels will be high when League Two’s two most prolific teams go head to head tomorrow.

Colchester United host league leaders Lincoln City in a top-of-the-table showdown, with both sides having scored nearly 60 goals between them so far, this season.

A crowd of more than 5,000 is predicted at the JobServe Community Stadium, with the fifth-placed U’s aiming to gain ground on their opponents and the other sides above them in the table.

U’s head coach McGreal is expecting a tough game against the high-flying Imps – but wants his side to stamp home their own qualities against Danny Cowley’s team.

McGreal said: “You would think it would be an entertaining game – we’ve scored goals how we’ve played and they’ve done the same with how they’ve played.

“It’s two contrasting styles and it’s going to be tough for both teams.

“I’m sure they’ll be looking at us and how we’ve played of late.

“We’ll be doing our best to implement our play and they’ll be doing exactly the same.

“It’s going to be tough on Saturday against the big title favourites who are doing particularly well.

“But we’ve bounced back particularly well this season and the plus thing is that now we have two home games.

“We have to try and bridge the gap in a way against a big club – they get 9-10,000 gates and they’ve got big players from the Championship and division one.

“Danny and his brother (Nicky) have done particularly well with them to get them to the top of the league.

“We know that it’s a tough division – we’ll show them the utmost respect and it’s about what we do.

“I’m hoping our fans will turn out in their numbers because I’m sure Lincoln will be bringing a big following down.

“When you get the table toppers coming to town, you’re hoping our fans will turn out in force.

“I’d envisage a really tough, tight game on Saturday – two different styles of play.

“It’s one where we’re hoping to implement our style of play to try and get the points but we know that it’s going to be tough – there’s no tougher game in this division than Lincoln.

“You can’t dwell on the past – you can learn from it and take the points from it and analyse it but you have to move on as quickly as you can.

“There’s no better way than with a home game but it’s against the top of the table side, so it’s a great fixture for us.

McGreal says Lincoln have recruited well ahead of this season – and revealed some of the same players were on the U’s radar, too.

“When we were enquiring about certain players and we were looking at players they were attracting, you know that they will be up there and in and around it as they’ve brought in some quality players,” said McGreal.

“They brought in (Bruno) Andrade from non-league and he’s kicking on this season and we know what big Jon Akinde does at this level.

“They’ve also got Matt Rhead who’s still performing at this level and (Jason) Shackell from the Championship and that’s just to name a few.

“We’ve worked just as hard to bring in what we needed and it’s dressing up for a great game.”
