Colchester United fell to a hugely disappointing 1-0 defeat at the hands of non-league Oxford City on Saturday afternoon.
Matt Paterson's strike early in the second half secured the National League South side a famous win and condemned the U’s to defeat, in their first-round clash at the Weston Homes Community Stadium.
SAM WALKER 6
Had little chance with the goal and did little wrong throughout the 90 minutes.
TOM EASTMAN 6
Hit the bar with a header in the first half and was a presence at both ends of the field.
RYAN INNISS 6
U’s man of the match – did his job in both boxes on a miserable afternoon for his side.
FRANKIE KENT 5
A frustrating afternoon for the young U’s skipper who was taken off on the hour.
RYAN JACKSON 6
Tried his best to get the U’s going with his attacking play and long throws.
BRANDON COMLEY 5
Struggled to dominate the football in the centre of the park against a physical City midfield.
DOUG LOFT 5
Was at fault in the build up to City’s winner before being substituted before the hour.
DREY WRIGHT 5
Showed moments of promise but often flattered to deceive at left wing-back.
KYEL REID 5
Displayed the most urgency of the U’s attackers but fluffed a gilt-edged chance late on.
BRANDON HANLAN 5
Squandered a decent close-range chance in the first half and lacked potency in front of goal.
MIKAEL MANDRON 5
Not the striker’s best display; was wasteful in front of goal at times on a bad day all round for the U’s.
SUBSTITUTES
CRAIG SLATER (for Loft, 57) 6
Was unlucky not to equalise late on with a shot that Stevens pushed away.
LEWIS KINSELLA (for Kent, 60) 6
Added a bit of impetus and energy to the U’s side after coming on at left-back.
TOMMY O’SULLIVAN (for Comley, 80) 5
Missed a decent chance in the closing stages after coming on for Comley.
SUBSTITUTES (NOT USED): James, Lapslie, Odelusi, Gilmartin.
