BURNLEY 4
COLCHESTER UNITED 2
Under-18 Professional Development League Two
COLCHESTER United under-18s' testing start to the season continued despite a brave display at Burnley.
Things did not look too good for Chris Llewellyn's side when they trailed 3-0 after 20 minutes, at Barnfield.
Burnley took the lead through Tristan Jumeau who nodded in Dwight McNeil's corner from close range after eight minutes.
And McNeil netted with a fierce shot six minutes later, to double the hosts' lead.
Things then got even worse for Colchester after Jordan Cropper converted from Leighton Egan's pass, following some neat build up play.
The U’s trailed 3-0 at the break but shook the home side with a great second-half fight-back.
Noah Chilvers pulled a goal back for Colchester midway through the second half.
And when Chilvers bagged his second of the game following a counter attack, the visitors were right back in it.
But after a Colchester penalty appeal was turned down and with the visitors pressing for an equaliser, Burnley sealed the win through Kian Yari's 35-yard strike.
Colchester under-18s entertain Sheffield United on Saturday.
U's squad: Phillips, Michaels, Keys, Howard, Ager, Anderson, Tricker, Chilvers, Maughn, Hasanally, Al-Amin Kazeem. Used substitutes: Sims, Stone.
