COLCHESTER United defender Sam Kuffour Jnr’s performance has been praised after he came off the bench to make his fourth EFL appearance at the weekend.
The 22-year-old impressed on the right side of the U’s defence after coming on as a 57th-minute substitute in their 1-0 defeat to Notts County.
Kuffour, who has now made seven senior appearances for the U's, read the game well and made some good defensive interceptions in the second half of the League Two clash, at the JobServe Community Stadium.

He also impressed at the other end of the pitch, twice coming close to scoring and also proving a threat with his long throw.
Colchester boss Danny Cowley said: “I thought Sam was the bright spot of an otherwise tough afternoon.
“He came on and he played with energy, athleticism and passion.
“He nearly scored twice and he also has a lovely long throw.
“He made some errors, of course; he’s just a young player but there’s definitely potential there.”
Kuffour made his league debut in Colchester’s 3-1 win over Harrogate Town, last October.
He came on as a late substitute in the win over the Sulphurites, having made his senior debut earlier that month in the U’s Vertu Trophy win against Gillingham.
Kuffour joined Colchester on a professional contract from Maldon and Tiptree in February 2025, having previously had trials at multiple clubs and spent time with successful independent football academy Elite Coaching Academy, in his bid to turn professional.

During his time with Elite, he had trials at a number of clubs including Colchester.
Kuffour eventually signed a six-month contract at Israeli club Hapoel Be'er Sheva, in 2022.
After returning to the UK, he then played for National League South side Cheshunt before signing for Maldon and Tiptree, last August.
Kuffour was signed by then Jammers boss and ex-Colchester academy coach Dave Huzzey, who had remembered the young defender from his U’s trial.
The centre-back, who is the son of former Bayern Munich favourite Samuel Kuffour, had been playing at National League South side AFC Hornchurch on loan from the U’s, earlier this season.
