KYREECE Lisbie is a young player who wants to ‘learn and get better’ as he strives for a place in Colchester United’s first-team squad.

That’s the view of U’s head coach Danny Cowley, who believes the former Brentford youngster is a player with real potential for the future.

Lisbie is yet to feature for Colchester since joining them on deadline day on a deal until the summer of 2027.

The 21-year-old winger has been featuring – and scoring – for the U’s under-21 side in the Professional Development League and boss Cowley says Lisbie is trying to add to his game.

Cowley said: “Kyreece is a young player that we think has got an awful lot of potential.

“He’s got a real athleticism.

“I would say we’re one of the most athletic League Two squads and Kyreece’s numbers are right at the top of that group.

“We’ve also got boys like Owura and Oscar who have also got incredible athleticism and he’s right at the top of that, with them.

“Like all young players, they’ve got aspects of their game that they’re working on and he’s getting up to speed with those things and keep trying to add to his game.

“He’s a great kid who wants to learn and wants to get better.

“The team has done consistently well for quite a period of time now; we’re eight unbeaten and we’re growing.

“Naturally, when a team is unbeaten that means that the players that are in that team and in that squad are doing pretty well, so there’s a lot of competition for places which is great.

“We’re always mindful of trying to create the right training diet for all of the players.

“You want a fit and healthy squad; you want a squad where everybody’s fighting for their places, because this is what drives standards.

“Everybody knows they’ve got to be right at it, because if you want to play in our team, you’ve got to have the intensity and play with that purpose and aggression on a regular basis.”

Lisbie, who scored for U's under-21s in their recent defeat at Charlton Athletic, will be hoping for a chance to impress for Colchester this weekend at MK Dons, with fellow winger Owura Edwards suspended for the trip to StadiumMK.
