FORMER Colchester United striker Jamie Cureton has taken charge at non-league outfit Cambridge City.

The ex-U's favourite has been appointed as the new first-team manager, who have just switched to Pitching In Isthmian League division north from the Northern Premier League.

Cureton takes over the Lilywhites, having had a brief spell in charge at Pitching In Isthmian League division north outfit Maldon and Tiptree at the end of the 2023-24 season.

Cureton told the Cambridge City website: "I am thrilled to be appointed as the new manager of Cambridge City Football Club.

"This is a fantastic opportunity, and I am eager to start this new chapter with such an historic and passionate club.

"I believe in a strong team ethic, hard work, and dedication, both on and off the field.

"My goal is to build on the solid foundation already in place, bringing fresh ideas and strategies to help the club achieve our ambitions.

"I am looking forward to getting to work straight away as there is a lot to do before the season starts.

"I cannot wait to meet and get to know everyone at the club including our loyal supporters.

"Together, we can strive for success and make this season a memorable one for everyone involved with Cambridge City FC.

"Thank you for your warm welcome. Let's get to work and make great things happen."

Gazette:

Cureton wrote himself into Colchester’s record books when he scored 23 goals for them, in their memorable first-ever Championship season.

He made more than 50 appearances for the U’s and scored 31 goals before leaving to join Norwich City, in 2007.

Cureton has made more than 1,000 competitive appearances spanning nine tiers of the football pyramid, scoring more than 350 goals in that time.

Speaking to the Gazette last week, the 48-year-old says he is keen to carry on playing at his next club.

Cureton said: “Liam (Bailey) was in control of it at Maldon and I played a bit under him, when he needed me to play.

“Obviously, when I’m in sole control, I can obviously do what I want, so I’ll play a lot more, next year!”
