GRIMSBY Town boss David Artell believes his side will be in for a ‘really tough game’ when they face Colchester United tonight.

The U’s are looking to secure a second successive victory to further boost their League Two survival hopes and face a Mariners side who sit one place but five points above them in the table but having played a game more.

Both teams will be looking to secure the three points at the JobServe Community Stadium in their quest to stay in the EFL and each will be going into the game on the back of impressive away wins, at play-off contenders.

Artell told the Grimsby Town YouTube channel: “Listen, they’re doing alright.

“They’ll be fine – they certainly won’t go down.

“They’ve played well in recent weeks.

“Danny and Nicky have, a bit like us really, have made them resolute, hard to beat.

“Yes, there’s been a couple of sloppy goals but they went to Crawley, a team in the play-offs and won, a bit like we did (at Crewe) on Saturday.

“They’re picking up points, it’s as simple as that and we know it’s going to be a really tough game.

“It’ll certainly be different from our game against Crewe so we’ve got to make sure that we’ve got the answers to the problems that they’ll try and impose on us.”

Grimsby’s match at Colchester will be their second successive away game in the space of four days, following their 3-0 win at Crewe Alexandra last weekend.

“We’re used to the quick turnaround now,” said Artell.

“It’s our last midweek game of the season.

“It’s always busy; it’s a busy time for everyone and getting the games prepped from one game to the next when you’ve got such a quick turnaround is being a professional athlete, that’s being a sports coach – getting all of the work and the prep done so that you can give a good account of yourselves come quarter to eight, on a Tuesday night.”

Goals from Toby Mullarkey, Curtis Thompson and Denver Hume sealed Grimsby’s win at Crewe and all but secured their League Two status for another season.

Artell added: “It was the most complete performance, in both sides of the ball and transition, if you like.

“I thought we were really good without the ball – they had one volley near the end of the game, I can’t remember them having another chance.

“I thought we were very good with the ball and I thought we were very good both ways, in transition.

“I thought in all aspects of the game on Saturday we were far superior to a team that’s in the play-offs.”
