COLCHESTER United will today further assess the knee injury suffered by Mandela Egbo in their defeat at Barrow.

The 26-year-old was forced off after suffering the injury to his left knee after half an hour of the U's 2-0 reverse, at Holker Street.

Egbo initially tried to continue but was eventually replaced by Riley Harbottle a few minutes later and left the ground on crutches.

The former Charlton Athletic and Swindon Town defender was making his start for Colchester since returning from an injury to his right knee which had sidelined him for two months.

Colchester boss Danny Cowley said: “Manny landed awkwardly from a set piece.

“It’s his other knee; it wasn’t his right knee but it’s his left knee in a brace.

“He doesn’t think it’s good and he’s really worried about it.

“It compounded the disappointment (at Barrow)."

Gazette:

Egbo has made 29 appearances for Colchester since joining them on a two-year deal from Charlton Athletic, last summer.

Colchester will also evaluate the fitness of left-back Ellis Iandolo after he was forced to miss their defeat at Barrow.

The former Swindon Town defender has been suffering from a recurring quad issue and was not risked at Holker Street.

Cowley said: “Ellis had a tightness in his quad and we can’t be reckless in this moment.

“These are very important players to us and we need them."

Colchester were also without Conor Wilkinson for the Barrow game due to a knee injury and will assess his fitness, ahead of tomorrow night's clash with Doncaster Rovers.
