IT is now just over two months since Matty Etherington parted company with Colchester United.

And the former U’s head coach is philosophical about where his next coaching role will be.

Etherington was dismissed as Colchester boss on January 1, after just six weeks in permanent charge.

The former West Ham United and Spurs winger paid the price for a run of form which saw the U’s lose eight out of nine matches at the end of last year, following his appointment as head coach on a full-time basis.

Prior to that, Etherington had led Colchester to ten points from a possible 12 in interim charge, after being elevated from his role as the club’s under-21 boss.

Etherington says he loves coaching but is willing to ‘wait and see’ where his next challenge lies.

Speaking on West Ham’s official podcast, Iron Cast, ex-U’s boss Etherington said: “I’m a big believer of what will be, will be.

Gazette:

“I love coaching, I’ve got my Pro Licence, I’ve obviously done my time and got up to that point.

“I had my time at Peterborough and did the 18s, 21s, with the first team, had a little bit of time at Crawley, 21s at Colchester, obviously took the first team for a little while as well.

“Things just pan out the way it pans out.

“With what I’ve been through in my life with the gambling etc, I’m not too fussed in terms of what happens to me, because I’ve been through quite a lot.

“But I believe the path will show its way in the end, that’s just the way I think.

“I love coaching. I believe I’m a really good coach and what will be in the future, will be.

“Whether that’s at Colchester, whether that’s somewhere else, we’ll have to wait and see.

“But I’d love to come back here (West Ham) one day and work in the academy and see what happens from there, but we’ll see.”
