ACCRINGTON Stanley have dismissed long-serving manager John Coleman after a poor run of results.

Assistant boss Jimmy Bell has also left the Reds, the club have announced this morning.

The Reds were thrashed 4-0 at Wrexham on Saturday afternoon and have dropped to 16th in the League Two table.

Accrington, who drew 1-1 at Colchester last month, have won only one of their last seven games and have lost their last three matches.

In a statement, the club said: 'Accrington Stanley can today confirm that John Coleman and Jimmy Bell have been informed that their contracts are terminated with immediate effect.

'Everyone at the club thanks them for their long-standing service and we wish them all the very best for the future.'

Coleman has had two spells at Accrington, with his second spell at the club spanning nearly ten years after he returned in 2014.

He led the Reds to the League Two title in 2018 and spent five successive seasons in League One.

Coleman, who has also managed Rochdale, Southport and Sligo Rovers, enjoyed nearly 13 years at Stanley in his first spell in charge there, guiding them up the non-league pyramid and into the Football League, in 2006.

He went on to manage Rochdale, Southport and Sligo Rovers before returning to the club in 2014.
