Mersea Island’s Music Marathon (MIMM) is returning after 6 years, with an "exciting programme" being planned.

The event will take place between 7.40pm on May 17 and 10pm on May 18 - lasting 26 hours and 20 minutes.

The music marathon is being held in aid of the Mersea Island Community Association (MICA) and to fundraise for new equipment at its community centre.

The last music marathon was held in May 2018, at the West Mersea Parish Church where more than £22,000 was raised for the church’s new sound system - with 32 other charities and small organisations also benefitting.

Six years on, and “post-Covid”, event organisers are now once again looking to raise the island’s spirits and generate some much-needed funding.

The date for performers to register has passed but anyone wishing to volunteer - by helping set up and clear away, help with catering, and maybe even baking a cake - will be given two-hour slots and a very warm welcome.

The small hall at the MICA will serve as a café and the MICA bar will also be open.

Admission is free with the marathon being a way to see some of the island’s talented musicians perform while helping give the MICA's funds a boost.
