MUSICIANS and singers are being asked to join an ambitious performance marathon in aid of charity - and they only have until this Friday to sign-up.
Mersea Island’s Music Marathon (MIMM) will take place between 7.40pm on May 17 and 10pm on May 18 - lasting 26 hours and 20 minutes.
The event is being held in aid of the Mersea Island Community Association (MICA) and to fundraise for new equipment at its community centre.
The music marathon is the first one on the island for six years, with the last similar event being held in May 2018, at the West Mersea Parish Church.
More than £22,000 was raised for the church’s new sound system and 32 other charities and small organisations also benefitted.
Six years on, and “post-Covid”, event organisers are now once again looking to raise the island’s spirits and generate some much-needed funding.
Participants can submit three preferred choices of performance times for their allocated 30-minute slot – with more confident performers being able to opt for “prime times” while other can choose the “wee small hours” when the audience may be snoozing.
Groups or individuals of all ages from four-years-old are welcome with each performer required to raise sponsorship money, with half the money going to MICA and half to their own charity of choice.
Application forms are available from the MICA or by emailing mimm24mica@gmail.com and must be returned by February, 24.
