GRIMSBY Town boss David Artell feels it would be unhelpful to label his side’s game at Colchester United tonight as a six pointer.

The U’s lie level on points with the Mariners in the League Two table, with both teams sitting seven points above the relegation zone.

Grimsby are only above Colchester on goal difference, with both sides hunting for points in their quest to move away from danger.

However, Artell says he will not be describing the game at the JobServe Community Stadium as anything other than a match they are aiming to win.

Artell told the Grimsby Town YouTube channel: “I think you’ve got to be really careful how you frame any match.

“You could have framed last Saturday’s match (against Stockport) as a free hit but we didn’t mention it as a free hit, because Stockport are top of the league.

“You could frame (tonight’s game) as a six pointer and we haven’t done that.

“I don’t think there’s a right or a wrong way in that sense; I think you’ve just got to make sure that whatever it is that we want to achieve to win the game of football, we fulfil our objective and what we set out to do.

“That’s the key thing, as opposed to trying to put on added pressure one way or the other or relieve pressure.

“I don’t think that’s helpful either way and I think if I said it’s a six pointer than some of the players would embrace that – how many, I don’t know because there might be some that go ‘uh-oh’.

“We’ve got to make sure that we perform as a group of players and if we do, then we’ve got a great chance of winning the game.”

Artell was appointed as Grimsby boss last November, succeeding former Ipswich manager Paul Hurst in the hot seat at Blundell Park.

He will come up against a Colchester side who have also changed their head coach in recent times, with Danny Cowley taking charge at the start of the year.

“There is similarities, without a shadow of a doubt,” added former Crewe Alexandra boss Artell.

“We can compare ourselves to whoever we wanted to but at the end of the day, we’ve got to worry about ourselves and no-one else and that’s what we’ll be doing.

“Whenever you lose a game, I think you want to play as quickly as possible, I know I certainly did as a player and say ‘let’s get that out of the way and put that to bed’.

“We’ve been on a good run away from home and that’s got to continue (tonight).”
