COLCHESTER United have signed winger Harry Anderson on loan from Stevenage until the end of the season.

The U's have made the 26-year-old their fifth signing of the transfer window.

Anderson has been reunited with Danny and Nicky Cowley, who managed him at Lincoln City and watched him play for Stevenage in their Herts Senior Cup game against Potters Bar Town, on Wednesday night.

The former Peterborough United youngster was a double promotion winner under the Cowleys during his time at the Imps, along with securing a Football League Trophy Final winners medal.

Anderson has made more than 100 appearances in League One for Peterborough, Lincoln, Stevenage and Bristol Rovers, with whom he also won promotion from League Two.

His game time has been limited at Stevenage, for whom he has made three appearances since joining them from Bristol Rovers, last summer.

Speaking to the Stevenage Comet prior to the deal being completed, Stevenage boss Steve Evans said he believes Anderson is a great signing for Colchester.

He said: "I was speaking to Danny yesterday morning and he said he’d send someone along and then I get the phone call, I was at another game, but I get the phone call to say Danny has sneaked into Potters Bar.

Gazette:

"And I thought ‘well, he won’t be anonymous for long if you’re telling me’.

"He likes him. Harry was brilliant with Danny at Lincoln and I would assume that Colchester have an interest if Danny is there.

"Whether Danny left the ground thinking ‘I'm still keen on Harry’, I've not got caught up with [director of football] Leon Hunter this morning, all I know is he has meetings this morning.

"We'll catch up after training but if you are Danny Cowley and you are Colchester, what a signing Harry Anderson would be.

"But there's others in so Harry might choose to go in a different direction or he may choose to stay here.

"The one thing that experience brings you is that if players don’t go out, you still love them and you still treat them respect. You still treat them well.

"And who knows, a week later he could come off the bench, score the winner and then his is back playing as part of it.

"That's football."

Anderson is in line to make his Colchester debut in their League Two clash with Morecambe tomorrow.

He is Colchester's fifth signing in this month's window, following Alistair Smith, Riley Harbottle, Jayden Richardson and Conor Wilkinson in joining the club.
