DANNY and Nicky Cowley will get the opportunity to ‘put their stamp’ on Colchester United’s squad in the January transfer window.

That’s the view of U’s sporting director Dmitri Halajko, as the club aim to reinforce with new signings this month.

Colchester have already added forward Conor Wilkinson to their ranks after snapping him up from Scottish Premiership side Motherwell, last weekend.

And Halajko has confirmed that there are likely to be more arrivals before the transfer deadline.

Halajko said: “I think there’ll be some more comings and goings.

“Every manager certainly since I’ve been here has been able to put their stamp on the squad with any players that they like or that they know and that won’t be any different here.”

Danny and Nicky Cowley have been liaising with Halajko along with head of recruitment Ross Embleton on potential new signings since their appointment last week.

Halajko says it will be a real team effort within the club, moving forward.

“I don’t think it’s a case of them fitting in with us; I think it’s case of us all working in partnership,” said Halajko.

“My job is to try and help them be as successful as they can and try and take stuff off their plate, so that they can concentrate on the football.

“My job is to try and execute some of the things that they want.

“There’s not a hierarchy like perhaps people sometimes think.

“We’re a group of people and if you get like-minded people all aligned, then you can really push things through quickly.

“We’ve got that; we know each other, we’re all from the area, we all know about the club; we’re all aligned.

“It will be us all round the table and discussing the best decisions for the football club and it’ll be a team effort.”
