FORMER Colchester United defender Junior Tchamadeu has been called up to the Cameroon squad for the Africa Cup of Nations.

The 20-year-old, who left the U's on transfer deadline day to join Championship side Stoke City, has been named in the Indomitable Lions squad for the tournament which begins next month.

Cameroon start their AFCON campaign against Guinea on January 15, with the final of the tournament being staged on February 11.

The Cameroon squad also includes the likes of Manchester United goalkeeper Andre Onana and former Spurs duo Georges Kevin Nkoudou and Clinton Njie.

Tchamadeu is part of a squad managed by former Liverpool and West Ham United defender Rigobert Song.

Tchamadeu last month featured for Cameroon in their World Cup Group D qualifiers against Mauritius and Libya.

The talented defender left Colchester on September 1 to join Stoke on a four-year deal, for an undisclosed fee.

He made nearly 100 league and cup appearances for the U's, after making his senior debut for the club in December, 2020.

Tchamadeu has made seven first-team appearances for Stoke in the Championship, so far.
