SALFORD City have dismissed manager Neil Wood after a poor run of results.

The Ammies, who were beaten 3-1 at Colchester United last Friday, lie six points above the League Two relegation zone following a run of nine games without a win in all competitions.

Salford's 5-1 home defeat to Tranmere Rovers proved to be the last straw for the club's hierarchy and they are now on the lookout for a new boss.

Salford assistant coach Simon Wiles will take charge of their game with Grimsby Town, on Friday night.

A Salford club statement read: 'Salford City Football Club announce the departure of Head Coach Neil Wood.

'The Club would like to thank Neil for his hard work over the last 18 months, including leading the Club to our highest-ever finish in Sky Bet League Two last season, and we wish him well in his future role within football.

'The process of appointing a new Manager will commence immediately, with Assistant Coach Simon Wiles preparing the team for Friday’s game against Grimsby Town.'

Wood, who succeeded Gary Bowyer in the role in May, 2022, led Salford to the League Two play-offs last season.

But Salford are languishing in 21st position in the League Two table and are now on the hunt for a new boss.
