Colchester United have been linked with a move for highly-rated teenage striker Ollie Godziemski.

The 17-year-old has been catching the eye with his performances for National League South side, Welling United.

The pacy young forward has had trials at both Championship club Blackburn Rovers and League Two outfit Stockport County, over recent months.

And Godziemski is now said to be on Colchester's radar, according to reporter Alan Nixon.

The U's have shown that they can spot young talent, with the likes of current players Jayden Fevrier, Chay Cooper and Ronny Nelson who all came into the club's academy from other clubs and in the recent past, Junior Tchamadeu and Kwame Poku arriving before moving on to higher-placed clubs.

Godziemski signed a new contract with Welling in the summer ahead of the 2023/24 season.

Colchester have been handed an away draw at Walthamstow in the BBC Essex Senior Cup fourth round, following the draw being made on Friday night.

The U's will face the Stow at Wadham Lodge, with the tie due to be played on or before December 23.

Walthamstow play their matches in Pitching In Isthmian League division north and are ninth in the table.

Colchester's youngsters booked their place in the fourth round with a 4-0 victory over Heybridge Swifts, last month.

Goals from Kaan Bennett, Donell Thomas and a brace from T'Aizo Marcel-Dilaver ensured a comfortable victory at the JobServe Community Stadium.
