COLCHESTER United legend Jamie Cureton is back in the dugout.

The former U's favourite, who helped the U's achieve their highest-ever finish in the 2006-07 season when they finished tenth in the Championship, has joined the coaching staff at Maldon and Tiptree, who are an alliance club with Colchester.

Cureton, who memorably won the Championship Golden Boot with the U’s in 2006-07, is now assisting Jammers boss Liam Bailey, at the Pitching In Isthmian League division north club.

Ironically, his first game with his new club came against Enfield, whom he left last month by mutual consent after a successful period in charge where he led them to the Essex Senior League title promotion to division north.

Writing on social media, he said: 'Great to be back in the dugout been my longest time out of the game for over 30 years. Great win today and good luck to my old club @EnfieldFC @MaldonTiptreeFC'

Maldon and Tiptree ran out 3-2 winners in the game, to claim their first league win of the season.

As a player, Cureton made more than 1000 competitive appearances spanning nine tiers of the football pyramid, scoring more than 350 goals.
