JUNIOR Tchamadeu has vowed to remain focused on helping Colchester United amid speculation about his future.

The talented 19-year-old has been the subject of continued transfer talk linking him with a move away from the JobServe Community Stadium, this summer.

Tchamadeu has been linked with the likes of Stoke City and Blackburn Rovers, with Colchester receiving solid interest in their promising youngster in the current transfer window.

However, the League Two Young Player of the Year remains a U’s player, with less than three weeks remaining until deadline day – and insists he is fully focused on the job in hand.

Tchamadeu said: “There’s always going to be speculation going on.

Gazette:

“I’m in a position where I’ve just got to keep my head down and focus on my job, which is to help the team and everything else just takes care of itself.

“It’s just the mentality I’ve had since hearing about these things.

“The fact of the matter is I’m only here to keep working hard and help my team-mates.”

Tchamadeu started Colchester’s opening League Two game of the season, a 2-1 defeat at Bradford City.

The wing-back had an opportunity to salvage a point for the U’s in the closing stages at the University of Bradford Stadium when he was put through by substitute Matt Jay but was denied by Bantams keeper, Harry Lewis.

“I felt I should have done a bit better; the way I came onto the ball, I thought the keeper would have read it had I gone to the far post,” said the U’s 2022-23 Player of the Season.

“I tried to give him the eyes but it didn’t quite come off.

“It’s those fine margins in games where had I put that in the back of the net, we take a point away from home in what was a very difficult game.

“These things happen, so with another chance like that, I know I’ll put it away.”

Colchester have an immediate chance to bounce back from their Bradford defeat when they host AFC Wimbledon at the JobServe Community Stadium, tomorrow night.

Tchamadeu added: “Tuesday is a day to put things right, which I’m sure we’ll do – I’ve got full faith in the team to do that.

“It’s a game for us to put things right which the group of players we’ve got are more than capable of.

“Individuals weren’t up to the standard and I put myself in that bracket – I don’t think I had the best of games.

“I know what I bring to the team and I don’t think I brought enough.

“In the first half, we were definitely much better and our intensity was much better.

Gazette:

“We need to improve on maintaining that, throughout the 90 minutes.

“We did well to manage the threat of Andy Cook but they’ve got a few bright players and it showed with two different players scoring.

“It was a sloppy goal to concede just before half-time and we should have done better.

“I take part responsibility with that; I probably should have got into my position to cover round quicker.

“In football, these things happen, so it’s just about putting it right, this week.”
