To celebrate the quintessentially British tradition, we have created a list of the best-rated tea rooms in Colchester.

Afternoon Tea Week celebrates the great British tradition and is the perfect excuse to catch up with loved ones over a cup of tea and some delicacies.

The week-long event takes place from August 7 until August 13 and some venues across the UK will run a selection of exclusive discounts and exciting events to pay tribute to the nation’s favourite pastime.

Tea At The George - High Street 

Tea at The George is set within the historical 500-year-old George Hotel in Colchester.

Stylish and elegant, the Tea room is adorned with panelling, mirrors, cherry blossom, and lavish flowers, showcasing the city's historic charm and history.

One reviewer on Tripadvisor said: "Came here yesterday to celebrate my 40th. Lovely atmosphere, staff were very approachable and friendly. I felt quite relaxed. The food was amazing, I was unable to finish everything, so was given a lovely bag to take it home. Will definitely be back again."

Star Light Tearooms - Mersea Road

Starlight Tea Chapel is settled in a beautiful Grade ll listed building.

Built in 1855-1856 the Non-Conformist Chapel stood proudly within the grounds of Colchester Crematorium and Cemetery, surrounded by nature.

The café's website describes it as 'a place to hold your loved one’s Wake, or to just call in for light refreshments'. 

A tea lover, who visited the tea room said: "Beautiful venue. Lovely, friendly staff. Beautiful little chapel. Very well presented, and the owners have taken the time to make it pretty and welcoming.

"Great selection of homemade cakes, lovely coffees. Excellent service."

Caffe Sala - Eld Lane

Caffe Sala is a fully plant-based, independent Coffee House in the heart of the historic city.

The coffee shop offers a range of sandwiches, paninis, lunch options, light bites and hot drinks. 

A five-star reviewer from Trip Advisor said: "Amazing coffee, even made me a Cortado that is not on the menu, and delicious breakfast.

"Went for their humous, avocado and chilli flakes on half a bagel.

"Never had this before but definitely will have this many more times."

The Coffee Crate - Kelvedon Road

Although just outside the outskirts of Colchester, The Coffee Crate in Tiptree has cemented itself as one of the best places for residents to enjoy hot beverages and light bites. 

The coffee shop is pet-friendly and has a good range of lunch and breakfast options. 

A reviewer on Trip Advisor said: "Went here for a quick lunch with family, amazing little spot, great customer service and a lovely experience all together.

"I would absolutely go back again!"

Oak Tree Coffee House - Highwoods Square

The coffee house is based in Highwoods, Colchester and has been open since October 2010. 

Founded by St Luke's Church with the vision of being a quality coffee house for the community, the team is made up of dedicated volunteers.

The coffee shop offers a wide range of plant-based milks to craft your drink with. 

A Trip Advisor reviewer from Dovercourt, who has visited the café, said: "The happiest, friendly staff, and gorgeous food for lunch!

"I absolutely love this place, but I live in Dovercourt so don't use it as often as I could.

"Lovely friendly staff, very welcoming, nice menu, catering for all.

"If I lived nearer I would pop in regularly. My second visit, and still as good as the first!"
