COLCHESTER United are eager to beef up their squad this week ahead of the new League Two season.

The U’s would like to add ‘one or two’ new signings in the coming days prior to the big kick-off, this Saturday.

Colchester have already brought in four new players in the summer transfer window, with Mauro Bandeira, Nico Lawrence, Owen Goodman and Ellis Iandolo all arriving at the JobServe Community Stadium.

Garner said: “We’re still looking to add to the group.

Gazette:

“We want that competition both internally, with what we have now and I’d also like to create a little bit more by bringing one or two more players in this week.

“I think it would give us a little lift in certain areas and strengthen certain areas of the team.

“That’s what we need to do but there’s always a lot that goes on in any deal.

“We’re working hard behind the scenes and hopefully, we can get the players in that we want.”

Colchester have now completed their pre-season friendly schedule.

The U's tasted defeat only once in their warm-up games, with their sole defeat coming in a 1-0 reverse to West Ham United's under-21s, on Friday night.

Gazette:

The likes of John Akinde, Matt Jay and Will Greenidge all featuring for the U's in the game, which was played at Maldon and Tiptree FC.

Garner said: "There were good minutes and a real good intensity in that game.

"We got some really good distances into the players with a lot of pleasing aspects within that as well.

"Over the two games (West Ham under-21s and Leyton Orient) everyone has got the minutes that we aimed for, which is exactly where we want to be.

"We haven't picked up any injuries in the two games, so we can have a real strong push going into Swindon, on Saturday."
