HISTORY buffs will be able to enjoy a vast roster of a free and unforgettable experiences this summer at the city's most renowned museums. 

Colchester Castle, Hollytrees Museum, and the Natural History Museum have joined forces to present an array of captivating activities and exhibits.

At the castle, for example, guests will be transported 2,000 years into the past during its Gladiators: A Day at the Roman Games exhibition.

The awe-inspiring display offers a mesmerising glimpse into the world of the Roman Games and the legendary Gladiatorial Arena in Roman Colchester.

Boasting an extensive collection of priceless artefacts from Colchester Museums' own treasure troves, along with prestigious loans from the acclaimed British Museum, the exhibition is a true marvel of historical preservation.

The nearby Natural History Museum meanwhile houses a fascinating array of displays and exhibits delving into the rich biodiversity, climate change, and environment of north Essex.

Hollytrees Museum is also encouraging visitors to embark on a captivating journey through history within the elegant confines of a Georgian mansion.

Guests can witness firsthand what home life in Colchester was like more than three centuries ago through a splendid display of toys, costumes, and art.

An absolute delight for visitors, especially the younger ones, is the cherished Hollytrees dolls house, an exquisite miniature replica of the mansion.
