A TEENAGER was stabbed before being taken to hospital following a 'terrifying' attack in a Colchester park.

Police officers were called to Old Heath Recreation Ground in Colchester on Friday evening to reports of a minor stabbing.

Inquires established a teenage boy had been confronted by a group before he suffered a small wound to his arm during an altercation.

The victim was taken to hospital with injuries which were not life threatening shortly after 7pm.

James Warner, of Bourne Road, Colchester, said he saw a heavy police and ambulance presence outside his address.

“Their quick response was reassuring but it is terrifying that it happened pretty much outside my house,” said the resident.

“I know the police are working to catch the suspects, however it is still really scary to know that they are still out there at the minute.

“I walk past the rec nearly every day and often take the dog over there for a run. It could have been me that was attacked.”

Emergency workers remained at the scene for about an hour on Friday evening while investigations were carried out.

Mr Warner added he has become used to crime occurring near his property, adding: “Something bad happens nearly every day.

“I'm used to hearing sirens but a stabbing right outside your house is still pretty scary, and at 7pm it was still rather bright.

“I hope the victim and his family is okay and that he is recovering.”

The Gazette understands the victim sustained minor injuries and the weapon in question may not have been a knife blade.

Essex Police has now confirmed no arrests have been made but officers are appealing for witnesses to come forward as their investigation continue.

A spokesman for Essex Police said: “We’re urging anyone with information on the incident to come forward and speak to us.”

Those who can help the police are asked to call officers on 101 and cite incident 1303 of July 21.
