COLCHESTER United have been linked with a move for Crystal Palace's highly-rated young goalkeeper Owen Goodman.

Journalist Alan Nixon is reporting on Patreon that the 19-year-old shot-stopper is joining the U's on loan, from the Premier League club.

Canada-raised Goodman, who was born in Essex, signed a professional contract with the Eagles when he was 17 years old.

The 6'4' goalkeeper is yet to make his first-team debut for Palace but has been an unused substitute for them on a number of occasions.

Goodman, who is an England under-20 international, was also on the bench for games against Arsenal, Brighton and Hove Albion and Southampton, in the 2022-23 season.

He clocked up 20 appearances for Palace in Premier League 2, last season.

Colchester boss Ben Garner is on the lookout for a new goalkeeper to boost his options, ahead of the new season.

Kieran O'Hara was released at the end of the last campaign and Tom Smith's loan ended, leaving Sam Hornby and youngster Ted Collins as the U's keeper options, for the coming League Two season.
