COLCHESTER United midfielder Chay Cooper has joined St Albans City on loan until the end of the season.

The 21-year-old midfielder has linked up with the National League South side where he will be looking to get some game time under his belt, after a frustrating first half of the season.

Cooper, who signed a new one-year deal with Colchester United last May, has not featured for the U's senior side since their opening-day defeat at Northampton Town.

The former Spurs academy player was sidelined for a number of weeks at the start of the but had returned to full training and was closing in on a comeback.

But Cooper sprained his midfoot again after landing awkwardly in training and had another spell on the sidelines.

Cooper had made a big impact on his league debut for Colchester on the final day of last season.

The ex-Southend United youth-team player came off the bench to score a spectacular goal in their 2-0 win at Hartlepool United.

Cooper has made seven first-team appearances since joining Colchester at the start of the 2021-22 campaign, after being released by Spurs.
