PRECIOUS pooches in Colchester can now play and be pampered “all under one woof” after a grooming parlour moved to a bigger premises.

Muttley and Mabel, which was opened back in 2018 by owners Jo Clarke and Jo Nixon, relocated to Acorn Place, on Severalls Business Park, last autumn.

The state-of-the-art pet spa offers a range of services and is described as being the “perfect retreat” for our four-legged friends.

Dogs can enjoy everything from a relaxing bath and a cut and blow-dry to a soothing ear cleanse and a nail trim, all before chilling in a play pen until they are collected.Gazette:

Having upsized, Jo and Jo are also looking to one day open an on-site grooming academy to train-up the next generation of top tier groomers.

Jo Clarke says she decided to open the multi-award-winning facility after growing unhappy with how dogs are treated at other grooming parlours.

She said: “We are dog owners and could not find a groomers locally which did not put the dogs in crates or cages before, in between, or after grooms.

“So, we wanted something where the dogs were looked after from the minute they came in and decided to set up a grooming salon which works much like a hair salon.

“It has gone from strength to strength since then and we now have more 3,000 customers on our books.

“We love the dogs like our own and that is 100 per cent our motto and the staff here follow that to the letter.”

As a result of moving to a much bigger complex, Muttley and Mabel also now boasts a warm, welcoming and colourful dog day care centre.

It is managed by the extremely qualified Ellie Brown, who works alongside Zinnia Martin to ensure all of the playful pooches have nothing less than the greatest time.

Jo added: “It is a huge thing to take on but it became the very natural thing and the natural progression to offer a doggy day care.

“Every dog is temperament tested which, for peace of mind, is essential. It makes sure the dog is a good fit for us and we are a good fit for the dog.

“The dogs are exercised, socialised and they play, and Ellie spends time in the morning and afternoon with each dog.

“It runs very much like a children’s creche… just with slightly more barking. We are now a one-stop doggy destination. It is all under one woof.”
