DAN Chesters has returned to West Ham United after he was recalled early by the Premier League club from his season-long loan at Colchester United.

The 20-year-old has gone back to the Hammers, having made 18 league and cup appearances for the U's since joining them in August.

Chesters made 14 league appearances for Colchester - six of which were starts - but the young attacker now gone back to the London Stadium.

Colchester head coach Matt Bloomfield said: "Dan has been recalled by West Ham.

"His loan has come to an end and we thank him for his endeavours since he's been here.

"Dan has done well since he's been here.

"We've tried to give him as many opportunities as we can whilst he's been here.

"He's not our player but we've tried to look after him as one of our own.

"But he goes back to West Ham with our best wishes and we'll keep an eye on his future career."

Chesters signed for Colchester in late August, making his first loan switch away from West Ham.

He made his U's debut as a second-half substitute in their 2-0 defeat at Tranmere Rovers.

Chesters made his first start for Colchester in their Papa Johns Trophy win over Brighton and Hove Albion under-21s.

But he failed to start a league game under Wayne Brown and was more involved in first-team action under Bloomfield.

Chesters joins Beryly Lubala and Matty Longstaff in returning to their parent clubs, following the completion of their loan spells at the JobServe Community Stadium.
