Colchester United boss Matt Bloomfield on Crewe Alexandra defeat

The U's were the better side at Gresty Road and looked like they would claim at least a point from the encounter.

However, Dan Agyei headed in an 80th-minute winner for Alex to leave Colchester still bottom of League Two.

Bloomfield said: "We were the dominant team and we created the better chances.

"Even their manager said to me at the end that they don't know how they got a point, let alone three.

"But we weren't dominant in one box and we conceded in the other and I'm extremely disappointed.

"We didn't defend in our box at a critical moment.

"Their manager (Lee Bell) saying that (their keeper was man of the match) does give a little bit of context.

"I thought he made two incredible saves and fair play to their manager for coming out and saying that.

"But I'm here to win football matches and we lost today and I'm disappointed.

"We'll go back and watch the game as we always do and I think we have to keep it in context.

"All of the stats and shots are in our favour.

"Their goalkeeper makes two great saves but we have to see the game out at that point and we can't be conceding.

"I'm not going to hide behind the stats - they were in our favour but the one that mattered was against us, so I'm not going to start to change the facts of the match.

"One ball comes into our box, we don't defend it and that's not good enough.

"We have to make sure that we see the game out, at that point."

Colchester created plenty of chances and had a number of shots on goal.

But they were thwarted by Crewe goalkeeper Arthur Okonkwo, who made a fine save to deny Alex Newby in a one-on-one situation shortly before Alex grabbed their winner.

Bloomfield added: "I thought Newbs had a good game today.

"He's done well since he's come into the team and he's got a goal and a couple of assists.

"On another day, he gets two goals today - he's hit the target on both and the goalie has made two great saves."
