COLCHESTER United boss Matt Bloomfield has revealed he has received a letter from referee Tom Reeves following their defeat at AFC Wimbledon.

The U's were left aggrieved by the nature of the Dons equaliser, with Cole Skuse appearing to be fouled by Harry Pell in the area prior to Josh Davison scoring from close range.

Bloomfield felt Colchester should have been awarded a free-kick but the goal was allowed to stand and the hosts scored again soon after, to seal victory.

The U's have recorded back-to-back wins since that defeat at Plough Lane, with their 2-1 victory over Harrogate Town coming hot on the heels of a triumph over Charlton Athletic, in the Papa Johns Trophy.

Colchester head coach Bloomfield said: “I got a letter from the referee saying that they missed a foul in the six-yard box.

“I’m glad I got that one right and that my eyes are working OK!

“The result went against us there but the team spirit on Tuesday night (against Charlton) was great and we harnessed that again (against Harrogate).

“We had to dig in again, they put us under a bit of pressure, we could have maybe scored earlier on but it wasn’t to be.

“We had to dig it out but the team spirit was excellent and the desire to win a football match, which is never easy at any level.

“I played at League Two a whole host of years in my career and it’s never easy to win football games, at this level.

“Harrogate are a team to be respected so the way the boys dug in and fought for each other at the end, I’m extremely proud of them."

Meanwhile, Bloomfield has praised Luke Hannant following his impressive performance against Harrogate.

The former Cambridge United man played in a central role for the U's in their 2-1 win and played his part in the victory.

“People keep telling me that he’s been struggling but I can’t see it," said Bloomfield.

“From the day I walked through the door, I just saw a really, really good footballer who works hard for the team and is selfless in his work, gets about the pitch, can deal with the football, has got a goal threat.

“He’s trained really, really well.

“I don’t know what’s been and gone but all I care about is what’s happening now and for me, Luke Hannant is a very, very good footballer and one that I value very highly."
