A SITE targeted for new parking spaces must be checked for contamination before plans go ahead.
A proposal for new spaces and a dropped kerb to be installed in Buxton Road, Colchester, have been approved by Colchester Council.

However, planning boss Karen Syrett stated the site must be checked over first due to it previously being the home of a petrol station.
A report reads: “Prior to the commencement of the permitted development, the applicant is advised to undertake a suitable and sufficient site investigation and any necessary risk assessment to ensure the land is free from significant levels of contamination.”
