A STOLEN car was crashed into a field after a 15 mile police chase… much to the bemusement of a herd of llamas.

After being requested to stop by the police in Colchester, the Volkswagen motorist instead led officers on a dangerous chase to Sudbury.

The chase, which lasted for about 15 miles, came to an end in Suffolk when the car was crashed into a field yesterday.

Essex Police stated the vehicle was reported as stolen.

A man was arrested on suspicion of failing to stop, dangerous driving, theft of a motor vehicle, possession of cannabis and driving while unfit.

A force spokesman joked: “We did find a witness in this llama who is not impressed with the new tyre marks in his field”.

Officers were assisted in their daring pursuit by units from Stanway’s road policing unit and the force control room who managed the chase.

“We can promise you that he [the llama] was not alone in that field. He had many, many friends - they were all just a bit camera shy,” the spokesman added.

“We apologise if our witness is an alpaca and not a llama. We are specialists in policing, not animals - sorry.”
