WAYNE Brown says Colchester United’s home tie with Premier League side Brentford promises to be a ‘special’ game for his side.

The U’s reward for their 1-0 win at Ipswich Town is a meeting with the Bees in the Carabao Cup second round at the JobServe Community Stadium, later this month.

Colchester’s last home game in the competition was also against top-flight opposition, with the U’s seeing off Spurs in a penalty shoot-out on a memorable night at the stadium.

Brown says it is great for both the club and the fans that they have another chance to pit their wits against Premier League opposition, on their own turf.

Brown said: “Our reward is a home tie which is brilliant, first and foremost.

“Being at home is all you can ask for and to have that home tie against a Premier League team makes it a little bit special.

“Football is about supporting your club and taking away as many memories as you can from the experiences that you have.

“Supporting a team can be highs and lows and it’s important that the lads enjoy the moment of getting a good result against a very good League One team and I’m sure that they’ll be looking forward to pitting their wits against a Premier League team on our own patch.

“I’m sure the fans will be delighted with that too but there’s a lot of football to be played between now and then but we’ve got our own agenda and game to prepare for this Saturday.”

Colchester are aiming to follow up their fine win at Ipswich with another positive away result at Stockport County this weekend, as they return to League Two action.

The U’s have taken a point from their opening two games against Carlisle United and Northampton Town and head coach Brown wants to see his team perform throughout the entire 90 minutes.

Brown said: “The performances have been indifferent in the fact that (Ipswich) was probably as close as you’re going to get in terms of a full 90-minute performance in discipline, mental capacity and structure.

“I think our two league games previous to that, we’ve been very strong in both second halves of the game, both at Northampton and Carlisle.

“It’s about now putting a full performance together against Stockport over a long period to give ourselves the best chance of getting a win, which is our aim.”
